Every Mockfy test uses the same screen, modelled on the computer-delivered IELTS.
The timer
The timer runs on our server, not in your browser. Your answers are saved as you go, so a refresh, a closed tab or a dropped connection loses nothing. When you come back, you continue from the same place with the time that was left.
Pausing
Press Back (top left). The timer stops and a menu opens:
- Continue test returns to the question you were on.
- Save and exit keeps your answers; the test waits under Continue where you left off.
- Discard deletes this attempt.
Closing the tab also pauses the test.
The question navigator
The navigator at the bottom of the screen shows every question in the part.
- Answered questions are marked.
- Flag a question to come back to it; it gets an orange dot.
- Press a number to jump to that question.
- On a phone, the progress counter shows how many questions you have answered.
Highlighting
Select words in a passage, then press Highlight. Click a highlight to remove it. Highlights are saved with your answers and appear again in review.
Answer types
| Type | How to answer |
|---|---|
| Multiple choice | Choose one letter, or the number of letters asked for |
| Gap fill | Type the word or number; spelling counts |
| Matching and headings | Drag from the list onto the question, or use the dropdown |
| True / False / Not Given | Choose one of the three |
| Writing tasks | Type in the answer box; the word counter shows the minimum |
Important: Answers over the word limit are marked in red. In the real test they score zero.
Moving between parts
Use Next part to move between parts of a section. Finish section ends the section; you cannot go back after that.
On a phone
In Reading and Writing, the tabs at the top switch between the text (Passage or Task) and the questions or your answer. Tapping a question number takes you to it.
