The Writing section has two tasks in 60 minutes.
| Task | Suggested time | Minimum length | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Task 1: describe a chart, table, diagram or process | about 20 minutes | 150 words | 1 |
| Task 2: an essay on a given topic | about 40 minutes | 250 words | 2 |
Switch between the tasks with the navigator at the bottom. On a phone, the Task and Your answer tabs switch between the question and your text.
The word counter
The counter shows how many words you have written and when you have reached the minimum. Answers that are too short lose marks.
How your band is estimated
Mockfy gives an automatic estimate from your text. It looks at:
- length compared with the minimum,
- structure: paragraphs, introduction and conclusion,
- linking words and how ideas connect,
- range and accuracy of vocabulary,
- variety of sentence structures.
Task 2 counts double, as in the real exam.
Note: The estimate tracks your progress over time; an official examiner also judges how fully you answer the task. After the test, compare your answer with the model answer on the results page.
Tips
- Plan for two or three minutes before you write.
- Write Task 2 first if you tend to run out of time; it is worth twice as much.
- Leave two minutes to check spelling and grammar.
